To use MT4 on mobile, install the MetaTrader 4 app and log in with your broker account, then work from the four tabs along the bottom of the screen: Quotes (your Market Watch prices), Charts (analysis), Trade (open positions and new orders), and History (closed trades). It mirrors the desktop platform, with two key exceptions covered below. If you haven't installed it yet, see the Android or iPhone & iOS download guides first.
The four tabs in the MT4 mobile app
- Quotes — your Market Watch: live bid/ask prices for the symbols you follow. Tap a symbol to open a trade ticket or chart.
- Charts — the price chart with timeframes and the platform's built-in indicators for analysis.
- Trade — your account numbers (balance, equity, free margin) and every open position; this is where you place, modify, and close orders.
- History — a record of your closed trades and account activity.
How to place a trade on MT4 mobile
-
Open the Trade tab
From the bottom menu, tap Trade. This shows your balance, equity, free margin, and any open positions.
-
Start a new order
Tap the
+icon (New Order) in the top corner, then choose the symbol you want to trade. -
Choose order type
Pick Market Execution for an instant trade at the current price, or Pending to set a price the order triggers at later.
-
Set volume, SL and TP
Set your volume (lot size) and, if you want them, a Stop Loss and Take Profit. Smaller volume means smaller risk per pip.
-
Confirm the order
Tap Buy or Sell (or Place for a pending order). The position appears under the Trade tab, where you can modify or close it.
What the MT4 mobile app can't do
The mobile app is built for charting and manual trading, not automation. Two desktop features simply aren't available on the phone, and it's important to know that before you rely on it:
- No Expert Advisors (EAs). The mobile app cannot run automated MQL4 strategies. EAs are desktop-only — keep them on the Windows terminal (ideally a VPS).
- No custom indicators. You can't load
.ex4or.mq4files on mobile; you only get MT4's built-in indicators. Custom indicators live inMQL4/Indicatorson the desktop.
Use the app to watch the market and place or close trades from anywhere — but run any EA or custom indicator on the desktop terminal. Whatever the device, trading is high-risk: always use a Stop Loss, practise on a demo first, and remember that most retail traders lose money. Nothing here is financial advice.
Practise on a free MT4 demo first
Open a free MT4 demo, install the app on your phone, and place a few practice trades before risking real money.
⚠ Trading forex and CFDs is high-risk and most retail traders lose money. This is not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions
How do I use MT4 on mobile?
Download the MetaTrader 4 app from the App Store or Google Play, log in with your broker account (login number, password, and server), then use the four tabs at the bottom: Quotes for prices, Charts for analysis, Trade to open and manage positions, and History for past orders. To trade, open Trade, tap the + New Order button, set your volume and optional Stop Loss / Take Profit, and confirm.
Can I run Expert Advisors (EAs) on MT4 mobile?
No. The MT4 mobile app cannot run Expert Advisors — automated trading in MQL4 is a desktop-only feature. If you rely on an EA, run it on the Windows desktop terminal (often on a VPS so it stays online), and use the mobile app to monitor and manually manage trades.
Can I add custom indicators to MT4 mobile?
No. The mobile app cannot load custom .ex4 or .mq4 indicators; it only includes MT4's built-in indicators (such as Moving Average, RSI, MACD, and Bollinger Bands). Custom indicators must be installed on the desktop terminal in the MQL4/Indicators folder.
Where do I download the MT4 mobile app?
Get MetaTrader 4 from the official Apple App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android), or use the link your broker provides. Be cautious of copy-cat apps — see our Android and iPhone download guides for the safe, verified steps.
Is the MT4 mobile app good enough to trade on its own?
For placing, modifying, and closing trades and watching charts, yes — many traders manage positions entirely from their phone. But it can't automate strategies or run custom indicators, and trading on any device is high-risk: most retail traders lose money, and nothing here is financial advice.
Trading foreign exchange and contracts for difference (CFDs) carries a high level of risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Leverage can work against you as well as for you. You could lose some or all of your deposited funds; do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Nothing on MT4Download.com is financial, investment, or trading advice. Consider your circumstances and seek independent advice if needed.
