Can I download MT4 without a broker?
Not the official terminal. MetaQuotes stopped selling new MT4 licences to brokers years ago and does not offer a direct end-user download, so in practice you download MetaTrader 4 from a broker. The platform itself is still free.
Is MetaTrader 4 still supported in 2026?
Yes. MT4 is actively maintained — the latest build is 1460, released in March 2026 — and effectively every major forex broker still offers it alongside MT5.
Which devices can run MetaTrader 4?
MetaTrader 4 runs on Windows and macOS desktops and on Android and iPhone/iPad. There is also a browser-based WebTrader that needs no installation.
Is MT4 safe to download?
Downloading MT4 from a regulated broker or an official app store is safe. Avoid unofficial 'MT4.exe' files from random websites, which can be tampered with — always get the terminal from your broker.
Do I have to deposit money to use MT4?
No. You can install MT4 and use a demo account with virtual funds indefinitely. A deposit is only needed to trade with real money on a live account.
