Long position

Going long means buying an instrument because you expect its price to rise, so you profit if it goes up.

A long position (“going long”) is a buy: you open the trade expecting the price to rise, and you profit if it does. In MT4 you go long by clicking Buy in the order window. Your profit grows as the price climbs above your entry, and you lose if it falls.

Long is the more intuitive direction — buy low, sell higher. Its opposite is a short position.

Whichever way you trade, define your risk first with a stop loss and size the position with our lot size calculator.
